The Office is back!

IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!

Say it with me… THE OFFICE IS BACK!  The debut took place on Thursday with the episode entitled “Dinner Party.”  This episode was a literal treatise of Office inside jokes that only longtime fans of the show would understand.  (”What’s up, Tuna!? We gonna have some Tuna?  Pam, I bet you’re tired of TUNA!)

The premise:  Michael and Jan have a couples dinner party and invite Jim and Pam as well as Andy and Angela.  He doesn’t invite Dwight citing “I only have 6 wine glasses” and that it’s for couples only.  Dwight is destroyed over this.  All but the opening couple of minutes take place in Michael’s condo, rather than the office.  Michael and Jan create the most uncomfortable party environment that you can imagine.

My one sentence review: This episode was a worthy offering to pull the show out of the writer’s strike and to reward longtime fans of the show for their patience.

I have a different opinion on the show.

It would have been much better to reintroduce the show in the office. Over the period of the writers’ strike many avid watchers have convinced people to watch it when it started to come out again.

So you have a lot of first timers watching the show. If that was the only episode of “The Office” that I had ever seen I would have been turned off and wouldn’t tune in again last week.

They missed an opportunity to pull in a lot of people with this episode. I am a semi-loyal watcher (if there is such a thing) and I was a bit turned off myself.

There wasn’t a bunch of “real-world office politics” that make the show a hit, just a bunch of inside jokes that for a first timer, just aren’t that funny.

Nope, there’s no such thing as a “semi-loyal watcher”… so since you don’t exist, neither does your comment. :)

LOL Just kidding man. Thanks for commenting.
